Squaws, Stars advance in tennis sectionals

KINGSLAND— All three Adams County schools will be taking part in the tennis sectional semi-finals today along with Huntington North thanks to the results Wednesday in the opening round at Norwell High School.
The Bellmont Squaws defeated the Norwell Knights by a 3-2 margin rectifying a loss earlier this year to their NHC foes, while South Adams also earned a sectional win for the first time in several years by downing Bluffton 3-2.
Against the Knights, Bellmont found themselves tied at one point apiece when Brittany Barger of Norwell downed BHS number one Kylie Beery 6-3, 6-2, then Jenna Fenwick made quick work of the Knights' number two Kaitlynn Douglass 6-1, 6-1.
Mindy Loshe and Mikayla Voglewede picked up the second point at two doubles by defeating Brooke Toliver and Arissa Moser 6-2, 7-5, then the Knights evened the score in another close doubles match at one when Laken Chaney and Chloie Williams bested Miranda Voglewede and Macy Phegley 6-2, 7-6 (7-1).
The deciding match went to freshman three singles player Brielle Adams who did what she has done all season long and won in a tight three-set match. This time the frosh toppled Norwell's Heather Phillips despite dropping the first set 6-4, 4-6, 2-6 for the winning point.
The Lady Starfires made a clean sweep of the singles matches to top the Bluffton Tigers 3-2.
