Bellmont held off a solid Wapahani squad, winning 25-23 in the first game, then taking the next two, 25-17, 25-20, to complete a 29-4 regular season.
The Squaws also downed Wes-Del in three (23, 17, 20) in the earlier match Saturday. Adams Central fell to both Wes-Del and Wapahani in the other two matches at the Bellmont Quad.
"Wes-Del was undersized, but definitely did a nice job against us," stated BHS coach Craig Krull.
"(Setter) Steph Shoup did a nice job of distributing the ball and we were very successful in our offensive game. Everyone who attempts a kill was successful and we maintained our level of focus during the entire match. Our well-rounded stats show our depth and experience levels, and that will be beneficial as we approach the tourney."
Krull liked the Waphani match because it showed where Bellmont was as far as competition. Wapahani is No. 3 in 2A.
"We knew that we were going to have to stay focused and not get frustrated if the offense didn't produce right away," said Krull.
Bellmont had the lead most of the way until the first game was tied at 21. The teams exchanged points and finally Bellmont scored the last two for the win.
Bellmont jumped out in game two and Wapahani  could not get too close.
