The Squaws hosted the Lady Starfires on the soccer pitch Tuesday night and got a scare put into them when SA scored the first goal.
It would turn out to be their only score of the contest, as Bellmont put up six unanswered goals after that, three in each half, to defeat South Adams, 6-1 at the Teepee.
SA junior Michaela Rupp scored the Stars' only goal four minutes into the contest assisted by fellow junior Olivia Turner. The Starfires' continued to pressure the Squaws with several opportunities in the first 10 minutes of play.
"We came out flat as the intensity level did not pick up until the first round of substitutions," Bellmont coach Steve Lee noted.
Bellmont would score 20 minutes in with a Bailey Beery goal assisted by sister Kylie Beery. After that, the ball did not see much of that side of the field again as Bellmont thoroughly controlled the possession of the ball after that putting up a lofty 43 shots on goal. To her credit, SA goal keeper Alaina Johnston had 37 saves, despite the six scores allowed.
Megan Schueler had the next two Bellmont goals before half with the first assisted by Courtney Scherer and the second by Bailey Beery with 4:53 remaining in the half.
Schueler managed her hat trick with a third goal five minutes into the second half on a beautiful header off an Andrea Fruchte corner kick. Emily Gunsett scored an unassisted goal with six minutes left as SA pressed the issue frantic for a goal. Emily Smith scored the final goal on a through ball from Meghan Quinn.
