The Squaws started their season at home against South Side on Tuesday night winning a lopsided battle against the Lady Archers by a 7-0 count.
Bellmont quickly took control of the possession game against South Side and 20 minutes into the game Alyssa Strickler stole the throw-in and drew the last defender and goalie to her with the dribble leaving the forward Kenadee Roth wide open. Strickler quickly dumped the ball to her for Roth’s first career goal with an easy pass to the back of the net for the first and only Squaw lead.
Four minutes later, Bailey Beery took advantage of a quick direct kick to a racing Roth and before the defenders realized what happened it was too late as Roth scored her second goal winning the one-on-one against the goalie.
With eight minutes left in the half, Strickler earned her second assist putting the ball wide from the defensive pitch to Amberly Gutierrez forcing the defense way out of position. Gutierrez scored her goal putting it right between the goalie's legs and Bellmont led 3-0 at the half.
The Squaws came out a little flat to start the second half letting South Side beat them to the ball on a few occasions. but they quickly regrouped after the first five minutes and started to play possession soccer again. Eight minutes into half two, Madison Gephart stole the ball from a fleeing South Side defender and wasted no time as she put the ball to space right in front of a charging Ryann Velez who rocketed the ball from 18-yards out for the fourth goal BHS goal.
For the next 36 minutes, South Side hung tough defensively, but the Squaws finally broke through with 2:43 left and went on a scoring frenzy with three more goals in a short span.
