With 30 personal bests in the first girls swim meet of the season Saturday at Norwell, Bellmont coach Drew Norby left the venue "cautiously optimistic about the season."
"I knew that we had a wonderful core of veterans and a great group of young swimmers, but I wasn't quite sure how we'd perform. The ladies showed me that I should be confident. All of our swimmers had at least one personal best and most had two," stated Norby.
Bellmont scored with two swimmers in all but one event, and scored with one in the other.
Kelsey Link, Erin Hunter, Megan Maynard, Chloe Mock, Hayley Swaidner and Rachel Klingensmith all scored in both of their individual events at the Norwell Invitational. Mikayla Voglewede, Sarra Evans, Peighton Morlan and Bailee Hankenson  all scored in one individual event for BHS.
Had the "B" relay team in the 200 free relay not been disqualified for a false start, all of the relay teams would have socred, "a sign of deep balance, a coach's dream," noted Norby.
Norby had to figure the scores and times by hand since the Norwell electronic system failed. Norby gave the meet title to Oak Hill with 234 points to the 224 of Norwell and 183 of Bellmont. Jay was fourth at 175, followed by Columbia City at 137, South Adams with 120, Bishop Dwenger at 92, Bluffton with 76 and Adams Central ninth with 61 points.

In the 400 free relay, Bellmont took seventh in n4:27.78 with Mock, Morlan, Swaidner and Hunter. Another squad finished 11th. South Adams took third.
