Spring-break activities on tap throughout county

    Twenty-four activities for young people will be available in Decatur, Berne, and Geneva during spring break (March 21-26), courtesy of the Decatur-Adams County Parks and Recreation Department and nine partners.
    Free lunches will be provided six times for youth ages 3 to 18, regardless of economic status. Children do no have to participate in any activity in order to receive a free lunch. Snacks will also be provided at eight events and there will be one free supper.
    Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.
    Here is the schedule:
Monday, March 21
    10 a.m.-noon: Rock climbing, tumbling, and open gym activities at the Service Complex in Decatur; fee is $1. Free lunch from noon-1 p.m.,; ages 19 or older will be charged $2.50 for a meal.
    12:30-2 p.m.: Wii bowling at library in Decatur. Free lunch 12:30-2 p.m; 19 and older will be charged $2.50.
    1-3 p.m.: Make healthy snack creations at the library in Geneva. It is recommended that people register by March 18 by calling the library (260) 368-7270.
    4-6 p.m.: Ultimate Frisbee for sixth grade to adult at Homestead Park in Decatur. Snacks will be provided. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled. For details, call the parks and recreation department, 724-2520.
    5-7 p.m.: Open swimming at Bellmont's pool. Children under age five must be accompanied in the water by an adult and children who are not toilet-trained must wear a swim diaper. The number of swimmers may be limited by the capacity of the pool. Enter through door S1. Fee is $1.
Tuesday, March 22
    10 a.m-noon: Dodgeball at St. Joseph Catholic School's gym in Decatur. Teams will be based on the age and grade level of the players. Free lunch from 11 a.m.-noon;19 and older must pay $2.50.
    Noon-2 p.m.: Sidewalk chalk art at the library in Decatur. Free lunch will be provided; 19 and over must pay $2.5. If bad weather, this activity will be cancelled. For details, call the library, 724-2605.
    1-3 p.m.: Make five colors of chalk at the library in Geneva. Snacks will be provided.
    2 p.m.: Take free tour of the Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva. Monetary donations will be accepted.
    2-4 p.m.: Bowling at Haworth Lanes in Berne; $1 for shoe rental and $3 per game.
    6-8 p.m.: Rock climbing, tumbling, and open gym activities at the Service Complex; fee is $1.
Wednesday, March 23
    10 a.m.-noon: Open swimming at BHS pool; $1 fee, Children five and under must have an adult with them if they go into the water; children not toilet-trained must wear a swim diaper. The number of swimmers may be limited by pool capacity, Enter through door S1.
    10:15 a.m.-2:15 p.m.: Sidewalk chalk art at library in Geneva. Prizes will be given. Snacks will be provided.
    2-4 p.m.: Frisbee golf at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur. Some frisbees will be provided, but players should bring their frisbees. If there is bad weather, the event will be cancelled. Snacks will be provided. For details, call 724-2520.
    3-4:30 p.m.: Lego Challenge at library in Decatur. Some Legos will be provided, but kids are asked to bring their Legos. Snacks will be provided.
Thursday, March 24
    10 a.m.-noon: Obstacle course in St. Joseph Catholic School's gym at Decatur. Free lunch will be provided 11 a.m.-noon; 19 or over must pay $2.50.
    1-4 p.m.; Game Day at library in Geneva. Play Wii, Uno, or anything else. Snacks will be provided.
    2 p.m.: Take free tour of the Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva. Monetary donations will be accepted.
    2-4 p.m.: Bowling at Haworth Lanes in Berne; $1 to rent shoes and $3 per game.
    6-8 p.m.: Open swimming at BHS pool; $1 fee, Children five and under who enter water must have an adult with them.; children not toilet-trained must wear a swim diaper. The number of swimmers may be limited due to pool capacity. Fee is $1.
Friday, March 25
    Noon-2 p.m.: Craft time at library in Decatur. Free lunch from noon-2 p.m.; 19 and older must pay $2.50.
    1:15-4 p.m.: Afternoon at movies in the library at Geneva. Snacks will be provided.
    2-4 p.m.: Frisbee golf at St. Mark's. Some frisbees will be provided, but players should bring their own. If weather is bad, event will be cancelled. Snacks will be provided. For more details, call 724-2520.
Saturday, March 26
    4-6 p.m.: Familypalooza and dinner at St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur. The Familypalooza will involve carnival-type games, jump rope, hula hoop contests, crafts, Matchbox car races, and more. Tickets will be 25 cents per game. To enter, use Door Five at Fifth and Madison Sts. A free dinner will be given to everyone that evening.
    Partners with the parks and recreation department are the Adams County Health Department, Adams Public Library System, Boys' and Girls' Club of Adams County, The Bridge Community Church, North Adams Food Service, Purdue Extension Service, Substance Abuse Awareness Council, St. Mark's United Methodist Church, and St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
