Spotlight to shine on art

February 27, 2012

One of the featured events at Spotlight 2012, the Decatur Chamber of Commerce-sponsored business expo, will be the  North Adams Arts show, Chamber officials said.
Spotlight will be held Saturday, March 10, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Bellmont Middle School.
The art show is sponsored by the Decatur Rotary Club, with a grant from the Adams County Community Foundation. The show's main focus will be a juried art show for all Adams County high school art students.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in six categories.  Best of Show and Peoples' Choice awards will be presented.
Last year, Analie Alford received first place in painting, Hunter Debolt received first place in sculpture, and Erica Bomka received first place in photography. All three are North Adams students.
Also at this year's expo, the Bellmont High School's art club members will be doing face painting and charactures as a fundraiser for field trips.  Caricatures will be $3 and face painting 50 cents.
Projects from the Area 18 Vocational machine trades program at South Adams High School will also be on display.  Their motto is “if you can think of it, we can make it”
The Arts Council will also have paintings from local artists and adult art students on display.  Some artists will be be working on paintings during the show and some art work will be available for purchase.
Special displays this year will feature work by North Adams graduate Greg Mendez and other artists who collaborate with him: Mike Riddle and Neil Wiffill. Mendez has works on display at Adams Memorial Hospital and the Decatur Public Library.
Admission to Spotlight will be free.
