Special event to mark church’s 50th year

August 13, 2013

The Sociedad Guadalupana celebration has long been a tradition in Decatur, and after being suspended for a couple of years, it's coming back this year bigger than ever.
Guadalupe and Antonio Garza started the Sociedad Guadalupana Church on Schirmeyer St. 50 years ago to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, according to Adam Eguia of Decatur. And to mark the 50 years, a special celebration is planned for Saturday, September 1.
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the Sociedad Guadalupana Bendicion procession honoring God, Christ and El Nino Fedencio to be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
