BERNE— For the first time in a span of about a season and a half, 24 games to be exact, the Lady Starfires of South Adams won a basketball game, and they did it in dominating fashion over the Muncie Burris Lady Owls, 56-39.
Coach Ryan Cunningham, now 1-5, paced the sidelines for most of the game grumbling about the turnovers in the game, and with good reason. His team had 32 of them.
The good news for SA was that Burris had 47.
"Sometimes we're gonna have to win that way. What carried us was the defensive pressure," coach Cunningham praised. "The kids were active, and that's what I like about our team and this school is that they get after it in everything athletic."
The JV also won their contest against Muncie Burris with a final score of 29-22 as they kept the JV Owls scoreless in the fourth quarter after to steal the victory after trailing by one after three.
Samantha Baker and Marissa Bisel led the scoring for SA with eight points each, while Mackenzie Jennings had six points and Kelli Lehman added five. Manuella Falcao led the rebounding with nine and Madison Graber had seven.
The Lady Stars travel to Heritage on Saturday night to take on the Lady Patriots with a JV start time of 6 p.m.
