Adams County Highway Department Superintendent Mark Mitchel reported to the board of county commissioners Monday that the recent winter storm took its toll on his fleet of vehicles, with two trucks currently down for repairs and maintenance to a third recently completed. Mitchel noted that at one point last week, he had more trucks in the garage (seven) than on the roads (six). Most service problems were related to the extreme cold, he said.
Several stranded vehicles were reported by his crews on the snow-covered roadways, but only one prevented a road from being plowed. Because of how the vehicle was situated, Mitchel commented he couldn’t fault his driver for not plowing the road, for fear of striking the stuck car.
