Slow going on jail, court properties

August 12, 2014

County officials continue to wait for appraisals for the 162-acre Miller property off Winchester Street in Decatur, a site being considered as the location for a new county jail. A similar wait is under way on appraisals on two properties on 3rd Street in Decatur that are being considered for the site of a new superior court complex, Adams County Attorney Mark Burry informed Adams County Commissioners Monday afternoon.
Burry indicated he has received one appraisal for the Miller farmland, submitted by Kim Johnson on behalf of Steve Kreigh and Ideal Realty, setting the value of the property at $1.138 million. Burry stated he has yet to receive a second required appraisal on the property, but expects the results later this week.
The same is hopefully true of appraisals for the Collier Insurance building and a private residence along 3rd Street, Burry said. Plans are tentatively in place to construct a new superior court building there.
