Shoeboxes to be filled for kids

    Operation Christmas Child (OCC) will be undertaken again this year by members of The Bridge Community Church in Decatur.
    Shoeboxes will be filled with school supplies, toys, hygiene items, notes of encouragement, etc. and are given to needy children at Christmastime, an announcement said, noting that OCC has provided some 86 million gifts since 1993 to children around the world.
    November 14-21 will be OCC collection week, with the filled and donated shoeboxes to be delivered to The Bridge church, 1403 Winchester Rd.
    Any individuals, families, businesses, groups, churches, scout organizations, etc, may fill shoeboxes. organizers said.
    "Operation Christmas Child , a project of the international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan's Purse, uses whatever means to reach suffering children around the world with these gifts of hope," which includes delivery via trucks, trains, airplanes, boats, and even camels and dogsleds, the announcement said.
    The Bridge Community Church is open to the public from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. every day, plus 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
