Shirley A. Frey
Shirley A. Frey, 75, Decatur, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Kingston at DuPont in Fort Wayne.
She was born Wednesday, July 6, 1938, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Emerson Dwight and Valera Genevieve (Hart) Wass.
She married Keith L. Frey Aug. 9, 1959, at East Liberty United Methodist Church in rural Monroeville; he survives.
Shirley was a member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church in rural Monroeville, where she taught middle school Sunday school from 1965-2002. She was a membership chairman, served on the nominating committee and was a trustee at the church.
She was a 1956 graduate of the Decatur High School and graduated from Parkview Methodist School of Nursing in 1959. Shirley was an occupational health nurse for General Electric in Decatur from 1971-89 before transferring to the Fort Wayne location, where she worked from 1989 until her retirement in February of 1997.
Surviving are two daughters, Kristine L. (Joseph M.) Waffle of Fort Wayne and Karen L. (Anthony) Leone of Ekron, Ky.; four sisters, Ada Louise Hammond of Decatur, Jean D. Ternet of Monroeville, Jane M. (Leo) Busick of Woodburn and Loretta R. (James) Waymire of The Villages, Fla.; four brothers, E. Dale (Shirley) Wass of Decatur, Dean W. (Cynthia) Wass and Steven D. Wass, both of Monroeville and Duane L. (Kathleen) Wass of Coatesville; two grandsons, Austin (Ann Marie) DeLaRosa and Ryder Waffle; and two granddaughters, Amanda DeLaRosa and Rachel Waffle.
Preceding Shirley in death were two brothers, Roy and Dee Brian Wass; and a sister, Sheryl Lynn Wass.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at East Liberty United Methodist Church, with Rev. Art Augsburger and Rev. Ralph Klinker officiating.
Internment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, and one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to East Liberty United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or the the donor’s choice.
