The Adams County Golf Tournament took place over the weekend with action starting Saturday at the Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur, and finishing up Sunday, at The Golf Club of the Limberlost in Geneva and both the men’s and women’s divisions were won by defending champions.
Winning the Ladies division championship play was Brenda Shifferly shooting 86 on Saturday and 83 Sunday. Pleased with her play as well,Shifferly now has won 34 times in City, County and Club championships in her golfing career.
Also in the Ladies division, runner-up and second place went Tara Rickord as she totaled 176 for the two-day event. Third place was captured by Cathy Coshow at 184.
The Adams County Men’s Golf Championship of 2011 went to Keith Blythe, who posted rounds of 71 at Cross Creek Golf Club and 70 at The Golf Club of the Limberlost totaling 141 or 2 under par for the tournament.
Blythe commented that he was pleased with the way he hit the golf ball throughout the tournament.
Second place and runner-up honors went to Dr. Mike Ainsworth with a combined score of 147. A three-way tie for third found Luke Ainsworth, Jimmy Baker and Bob Goulet at 154.
In the Super Senior Men’s Division, John Geels recorded scores of 84 and 82 to win that part of the county championship. A second place tie between Jack Hackworth and Jim Habegger finalized the Super Seniors at 175.
In regular Senior Men’s Tournament, Tom Oliver of Ohio City, Ohio, and member of The Golf Club of the Limberlost, recorded scores of 89 and 78 for 167 and claimed the first place victory in that division.
Oliver said “I felt I was mentally tough to score and win today. I am pleased with the final results,”
Second place went to Kermit Summers and Steve Lowring posting 173.
Other results in the tournament included a 3-way tie for first in the First Flight Men’s Division as John Flueckiger, Kevin Geyer and Scott Ainsworth were at 162. In the Second Flight Men’s Division Steve Pilkington was first at 164. Randy Colclasure was second at 182 and Paul DesJean captured third at 185. In the Third Flight Men’s Division, the first place winner was Corey Coshow who scored a 186 total. Second place went to Bob Dobson at 191 and third place finished up at 194 by Jordan Steiner.
