Sheriff’s car damaged in I-69 slideoff

February 27, 2013

Icy road conditions on I-69 in Huntington County on Tuesday caused an Adams County Sheriff's Department transport officer escorting two adult prisoners to the Department of Corrections near Indianapolis to lose control of his squad car, resulting in heavy damage to the vehicle.
ACSD Chief Deputy Eric Beer said this morning that veteran reserve officer Fritz Bultemeyer, rural Decatur, was southbound on I-69 when the car hit a patch of ice on the road, causing it to spin out of control and into a nearby field where it struck a fence.
Beer said the back window of the vehicle was broken out in the crash but neither prisoner escaped. One was treated at a hospital and released.
