Sheriff Shane Rekeweg
Due to the retirement on July 31 of Terry Nevil, who served as a deputy sheriff for some 32 years, and pending surgery for another deputy, Jody Mawhorr, Sheriff Shane Rekeweg on Monday received permission from the Adams County Commissioners to hire a full-time deputy.
Rekeweg also said a fulltime jailer, Mike Miller, has left to accept another job in Decatur, so he will try to fill that vacancy by promoting a part-time jailer to fulltime status. Thus, he was given permission to hire a part-time jailer to fill that likely part-time vacancy.
Meanwhile, Highway Superintendent Mark Mitchel got the okay to hire a truck driver and he reported that he has added Kenric Gould as an assistant mechanic after having recently permission recently from the commissioners to do so.
County Auditor Bill Borne reported that he, too, received permission from the commissioners to fill a vacancy and hired Sharon Schroeder to replace a longtime staffer, Judy Faurote, who will soon retire.
On another matter, Decatur Utilities Auditor Dan Rickord was named to a county board that will set common construction wage rates for public projects in the county. He was named because the first person picked, Bill Karbach of the Decatur Board of Public Works and Safety, could not serve on the wage board.
