October 18, 2011

Underside of the semi tractor-trailer that tipped over at 13th St. and Nuttman Ave. on Monday evening.

A semi tractor-trailer trying to make a turn from 13th Street onto Nuttman Avenue late Monday evening tipped over, causing a large roll of steel being carried by the semi to break away from the vehicle and also entrapping the driver for a short period of time.
The Decatur Police Department reported that Eric S. Lintermoot, 39, Decatur, was attempting to turn his semi at 11:30 p.m. when the semi turned over onto its side. The steel rolled off the semi and went up over the curb onto the property of the nearby Wendy's restaurant.
Police said Lintermoot was trapped inside his cab, but suffered only minor injuries.
The Decatur Fire Department was called to assist in removing Lintermoot and was on the scene until 3:23 a.m. working to help clean up a diesel fuel spill caused by the mishap.
Paramedics were called to the scene, but information about Lintermoot's status was not available from the hospital this morning.
Damage to the vehicle and steel was estimated at between $25,001-$50,000.
