Second round of letters gets council okay

July 3, 2013

Homes and businesses violating the city's sewer ordinance were in the spotlight at Tuesday night's Decatur City Council meeting.
Seeking to come into compliance with orders set forth by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) on separation of the storm and sanitary sewers, the city had smoke testing done to determine where violations are located. Many of the violations are minor, but some have been termed "significant."
Anne Butcher, manager of the sewage treatment plant, last night updated council on the progress of informing violators. Letters were sent to those with both minor and significant violations.
