Schwaller’s blast keeps Jets rolling over ‘Busco, 1-0

Matt Schwaller

MONROE—With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jets' left fielder Matt Schwaller did what Adams Central has done well all season long, win games late.
Facing a full count and a 0-0 score, Schwaller blasted a walk-off solo homerun to lift the Jets to a victory over the visiting Churubusco Eagles, 1-0, in game one of their doubleheader.
With the monkey off their back in game one, the Jets proceeded to dominate in game two, 12-2, in a five inning affair to improve to 19-3 on the season as the #2 team in class 2A baseball.
The Jets struggled all morning long in the first contest against Churubusco's Jordan Howell who went the distance in the loss pitching 6.1 innings striking out seven and allowing just four hits in the game, but none bigger than Schwaller's in the seventh.
Isaac Luginbill took a no-decision after pitching five innings of scoreless baseball against ‘Busco allowing just four hits with nine strikeouts. Dalton Combs was the benefactor of the Schwaller stroke earning the victory on the mound for the final two innings allowing no runs or hits with five K's facing six batters.
Coach Dave Neuenschwander made the change to Combs in the sixth after the Eagles threatened to score in the fifth. Luginbill walked a batter to begin the inning, then allowed a hit to Michael Howk putting runners on first and second with nobody out. The Jet senior buckled down by striking out the next batter, but the runners moved to second and third on a hit back to the mound. With two outs, however, Luginbill struck out the next batter to get out of the jam and end on a good note.
Along with Schwaller's homer, Kyle Baker, Luginbill, and Isaac Soldner all singled in the game accounting for all of the hits.
