Sarah J. Hake, 69, of rural Decatur, died unexpectedly on Monday evening, December 13, 2010, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
Sarah was the daughter of William and Patricia (Holthouse) Gass. She was born on October 2, 1941 in Decatur, Indiana.
On August 12, 1961, she married Dale F. Hake.
Sarah was a lifelong resident of Adams County and a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur. She was a Eucharist minister to the sick and homebound and a member of the Rosary Society.
Sarah was such a kind and nurturing person, always looking out for the underdog.
Survivors include her husband, Dale F. Hake of Decatur; two sons, Geoffrey (Lori) Hake and Jason (Amy) Hake, both of Decatur; a daughter, Amanda Hake of St. Petersburg, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Andrew Hake, Kristen Hake, Tarryn Hake, Conner Hake, Logan Hake, Christopher Hake, Zachary Hake, Sydnee Hake, Benjamin Hake, Brandon Ford, Kyle Hake, and Paige Hake; and a sister, Peggy Lengerich of Decatur.
Sarah is preceded in death by three sons, Christopher J., Dennis A., and Douglas P. Hake; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer A. (Tosconi) Hake; a sister, Annie Braun; and a brother, Stephen Gass.
Visitations is 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:30 p.m.
A 9:20 a.m. prayer service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father Gabriel Msuya will be officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or to the grandchildren’s education fund.
