Sandbag collection is Saturday

Staff Writer

The city of Decatur will pick up sandbags at Decatur homes, businesses and churches beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Those with sandbags must call the EMA office at 724-5320 with their name, address and phone number to be eligible for this service. Someone must be at the property at the time of pick up.
This service will be available on a first-call, first-served basis.
No appointments will be taken. If you do not call or are not home at pickup time, sandbags will not be removed from the property, according to a news release.
The city is asking for volunteers to help with sandbag collection. Pick-up will begin at 8 a.m. at the Decatur street garage, 809 Elm St. Contact the Adams County EMA prior to volunteering if you or your group is interested.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing, shoes and gloves for the task. Volunteers should be able to lift the 30-40-pound sandbags.

Want sand?
Residents in Decatur and the surrounding area needing sand for ponds, fill, gardens, etc. may also contact the EMA. The city will deliver the filled sandbags to you but will not redistribute them on private property.
