SA boys take gold at ACAC

GARRETT—Hannah Moore and Evan Liechty added another title to their stories cross country careers at South Adams Tuesday night as both runners claimed first place in the annual ACAC meet held at Garrett High School.
Liechty started a chain reaction for South Adams as Coach Clint Anderson's team finished one-two-three in the boys division and easily won the event with a mere 21 points. Liechty was an eight and a half second winner over teammate Joel Hawbaker finishing at 17:04.07 to Hawbaker's 17:13.51. Teammate Brody Shane was third in less than a second behind Hawbaker at 17:13.71.
Moore was equally up to the task in the girls race and teammate Kristen Muselman was second as the Starfire duo posted respective times of 20:28.18 and 20:50.20. Jenna Smith was also a top 10 finisher getting seventh in 21:41.82. South Adams was second in the team race to Leo as the Lions rolled up 53 points to 61 for South Adams.
Adams Central placed fourth in both the boys and girls race.
The South Adams domination in the boys escapade was evident in the fact their fourth, fifth, and sixth runners also were in the top 10 among a field of 45 runners. Simon Sprunger was seventh overall in 17:46.38, Cody Sprunger was a few ticks behind him in eighth at 17:58.51, and Tim Lehman earned ninth at 18:18.66. The seventh SA harrier, Daniel Velasco, beat 34 other runners with a 18:39.23 clocking for 14th place.
The best any other team could do was Garrett with a fourth and sixth place finish while Adams Central's Kyle Fawcett led the field of Jet runners in fifth position at 17:43.99. Garrett was second in the team race at 73 followed by Leo 81, Adams Central 86, Woodlan 148, Southern Wells 157, and Bluffton 164.
Adams Central placed two other runners in the top 20 as Gavin Kaehr was 13th in 18:39.23 and Eli Stoller was 15th in 18:44.22. Rounding out the AC scorers were Nick Baumer, 23rd in 19:20.96, and Ben Lehman, 30th in 19:54.77. Other Jet harriers were Maverick Baumer, 31st in 19:59.85, and David Teeple, 34th in 20:18.61.
Despite the fact South Adams had three top 10 finishers in the girls division, something no other team was able to do, the Starfires found themselves edged out by Leo with the Lions placing their top five in fourth, eighth, 12th, 13th, and 16th. South Adams' Allison Amstutz was 15th overall at 22:41.43 while Sydne Zuber took 36th at 25:44.09.
Adams Central was led by Kayla Isch who was sixth overall with a 21:40.04 finish. She was followed by Jessica Dunn, 14th in 22:27.51, Olivia Macklin, 22nd in 23:45.64, Jessica Ripley, 25th in 24:04.36, Leah Spangler, 28th in 24:37.12, Mary Fox, 30th in 24:49.35, and Madison Carroll, 35th in 25:41.76.
After the Leo-South Adams battle, Southern Wells came in third at 89, Adams Central followed at 95, Garrett had 111, Woodlan 116, and Bluffton ended up at 150.
