On Tuesday night, the South Adams School Board approved the hiring of its new varsity girls basketball coach, Ryan Cunningham of Huntington.
Cunningham takes over the Lady Starfires basketball program, replacing Brandon Bailey, who left after just one season at the helm.
Ryan and his wife Erica, and children Kelby (14) and Carson (12) live in Huntington. He has four years experience as an assistant girls basketball coach at Wabash High School (2000-’02) and Bluffton HS (2006-’08). Ryan was the varsity girls basketball head coach at Whitko from 2002-2006.
He also coaches middle school football at Crestview Middle School in Huntington. Ryan is currently an account manager at National Serv-All in Fort Wayne.
Cunningham is the third coach in three years for the SA girls cage program.
In other action, the board added one year to the contract of athletic director Mike Pries.
Pries, embattled with a former superintendent a few years back and falsely accused of breaking rules, is one of the well respected athletic directors in northeast Indiana.
Also at the meeting last night, the SA board rescinded hits approval of Kyle Alberson as an assistant boys soccer coach.
The board accepted the resignation of Tori Bluhm as eighth grade girls volleyball coach, then approved her as a volleyball volunteer coach.
Other resignations approved were as follows: Jeff Lehman, as eighth grade boys basketball coach; and Alyssa Moser, as girls varsity assistant basketball coach.
New head girls basketball coach Ryan Cunningham of Huntington was approved last night, as was his assistant, Josh Hendrixson. Dianna Fox was approved as a cross country volunteer coach.
Paul Yoder was approved as the new head eighth grade girls volleyball coach and Jamie Beitler was awarded the job as a volunteer volleyball coach.
It was also noted at the South Adams Board meeting Tuesday that Don Myers Heating & Cooling donated funds for a goal post. Funds for a tarp to be placed on the home field sidelines at Starfire Stadium was given by anonymous donor.
