SA board is given details on state indoor air quality rules

    At a meeting of the South Adams Schools Board this week, Director of Facilities Dave Vorhees gave a report on the new rules for indoor air quality.
    He said the schools are now required by the state to have written policies on vehicle idling, animals in the classrooms and chemical management. Some other requirements include monitoring carbon dioxide and humidity levels and taking care of water or mold damage within 48 hours of detection.
    Vorhees has been designated as the indoor air quality coordinator for state inspectors, students, parents, staff and visitors.
    
Savings seen
    Technology Director Myra Moore had good news to report. She said that Microsoft is changing how it licenses its products to schools. Instead of Microsoft charging per computer, it is now charging per full-time employee. Moore said this will save the school corporation approximately $25,000 in 2012. 
    Also in her report, Moore said that the schools are preparing for online ISTEP testing in the spring.
    School board members approved a motion to hire a technology assistant to replace Jessica Rambo, who recently resigned.
