Ruth Freed

    Ruth Freed, 84, of Decatur, died at her residence on Monday, October 8, 2012.
    She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Naomi and Hugh Easton on March 15, 1928.
    Ruth married Russell E. Freed on June 11, 1954, at Pleasant Grove United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. Russell preceded her in death on November 5, 1971.
    She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for 40 years, including the years at the church in Youngstown, and was active in the Women’s Association in the Decatur church. She was an Elder and a Deacon in the church in Decatur. She was employed by the North Adams Community Schools system for 20 years at Southeast Elementary School as secretary.
    Among survivors are three children, Russell W. "Rusty" (Kathie) Freed of Carmel, Ind,; Richard (Diane) A. Freed of Fishers; and Cynthia (Kevin) (Freed) Engle of Decatur; a brother, Robert (Cathy) H. Easton; and sister-in-law, Elva Easton, both of Youngstown; six grandchildren, Brent and John Freed; Erica Freed; Ryan, Bradley and Nicholas Engle; two stepgrandchildren, Brent and Jill; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Vanessa, Zach, Rowan and Gabriella; as well as a great -granddaughter due to arrive this month.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers, Pastor Paul Easton and William Easton; and a sister, Frances Jean Easton.
    Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, followed by a 6 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Marcia Cline will be officiating.
    Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
    Preferred memorials are to First Presbyterian Church.
