Ruby Shelton Swickard

    Ruby Shelton Swickard, 89, retired elementary teacher for Muncie Community Schools, died November 8.
    She began her teaching career in North Adams Schools, 1954-1969, before moving to Muncie.
    A free-lance writer who had over 300 articles published, she was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award in 2003 from Gov. Frank O'Bannon, given for her lifetime commitment to education, writing and outreach to the community.
    Survivors include three children, David Alexander Swickard, East Hampton, NY; Jean Bates, Carmel; and Nancy Swickard, Muncie.
