Roger G. Haessig

    Roger G. Haessig, 73, Syracuse, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at his residence. He had previously resided in Berne and Milan.
    He was born Thursday, June 13, 1940, in Milan, the son of the late Loren H. and Alma D. (Roberts) Haessig.
    Roger married Ellamae Speakman August 21, 1965, in Union Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Decatur; she survives.
    Roger was a member of Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene in Berne, where he had served as treasurer and Sunday school secretary.
     He was a 1958 graduate of Milan High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Asbury College and his Masters in Education from St. Francis College. Roger taught math at North Judson Middle School for five years and had worked at Gilpin, Inc. in Decatur for 26 years.
 Surviving are two sons, David M. (Kim) Haessig of Milford and Daryl L. (Susan) Haessig of Syracuse; a daughter, Karen (Sunu) Thomas of South Bend; two brothers, Donald and Nelson Haessig of Milan; and nine grandchildren.
    Preceding Roger in death was a brother, Robert Haessig.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene, 5005E 500S, Berne, with Pastor David Boots officiating.    
    Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
    Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m., Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday, both at the church.
     Preferred memorials are to Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene.
