Roe A. Lehman, 77, of Berne, passed away on May 24, 2011 at 8 p.m. after suffering several years of Parkinson’s Disease and leukemia.
Roe was born on April 4, 1934, in Adams County to Peter B. and Elizabeth (Welty) Lehman.
He is survived by a son, Todd Lehman of rural Arcola, and two granddaughters, Emma and Tessa Lehman.
His daughter, Tandy, was fatally injured in a hayride accident of October of 1978.
Roe graduated from Adams Central High School, class of 1952. He farmed for several years and had a keen interest in Guernsey cattle shows.
Later, he became part owner of Lee's Department Store in Berne. Following the sale of that store, he became owner and operator of The Fair Store, also in Berne, for many years until his retirement.
Roe was well known in the Berne area and was active in the city's annual Swiss Days. He then worked parttime at the Antique Store.
Roe is also survived by two sisters, Pollyanna Neuenschwander and Juanita Arnold, both whom reside at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne; a brother, Bill (Carolyn) Lehman of rural Ohio City, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Reimer and Wavelene Yoder.
Services will be held at the Swiss Village chapel on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 3 p.m., with viewing from 1-3 p.m., and Pastor Jay Carter officiating.
Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, rural Berne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren in rural Decatur, to Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeast Indiana, at Berne, or to his grandchildren's education fund through Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
