Robert H. Boyle, 75, Decatur, died at Adams Memorial Hospital Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014.
Robert was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Huntington, to the late Edwin J. and Helen L. (Cull) Boyle. He married Rosalie Owens June 3, 1961; she survives.
Robert was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, Elks and volunteered at Adams Memorial Hospital. He was active in the Dimers golf group. Robert officiated football, basketball, baseball, swimming and diving, track, cross country, wrestling and volleyball. He also had a brief officiating roll in the movie "Hoosiers." He taught and coached basketball at Decatur Catholic High School for two years, winning the sectional in 1966. He retired in 1995 as Guidance Counselor for North Adams Community School System.
Survivors include his children, Daniel Boyle of Billings, Mont., Jonathan (Blair) Boyle of Alpharetta, Ga., Bradley (Lorinda Browning) Boyle, Bridget (Steve) Hankenson and Gina (Greg) Logan, all of Decatur; two brothers, D. Fred Boyle of Fort Wayne and David (Annie) Boyle of Huntington; a sister Susan (Steve) Zimmerman of Ft Wayne; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandsons with two additional great-grandsons due in April.
A 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday,at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Voors officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 12 p.m. Sunday with Visitation following from 12:30-6 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
Memorials are to St. Joseph Catholic School or Worthman Fitness Center at Adams Memorial Hospital.
