Robert G. Walters Jr., 70, Decatur, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his residence. He was born Dec. 21, 1943, in Akron, to the late Robert G. and Edna M. (Barnes) Walters.
He married his wife of 50 years, Sharon K. Baker, Dec. 28, 1963; she survives.
Bob was a 1962 graduate of Decatur High School, where he excelled in basketball. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Bob retired in November of 2013 after 52 years with Uniroyal Goodrich Michelin. He cherished his family and loved his work.
Bob is survived by a son, Robert G. Walters III of Anderson, S.C.; two daughters, Susan J. (Pat) Sefton and Julie A. (Jason) Steury, both of Decatur; three sisters, Sally (Phil) Erxleben of Decatur, Candace (Chris) Dolan of Sedona, Ariz., and Tammy Fuelling of Monroe; and seven grandchildren, Luke, Josh and John Sefton; Mikaela and Maddie Walters; and Jax and Sofia Stuery.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Robert D’Souza officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.
