Robert Gene Christener, 71, Monroe, passed away at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Robert was born Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1942, in Decatur, the son of the late John and Evelyn Maxine (Bovine) Christener Jr.
He married Carolyn Sue Amstutz April 15, 1989, in Adams County; she survives.
Robert was a member of St. Luke Church, National Corriedale Association (sheep breeders) of Iowa, and showed several grand champions at Mercer and Van Wert counties in Ohio.
He was a graduate of Adams Central High School. Robert owned Christener’s Custom Hauling, hauling livestock and farm-related materials. He worked for Automatic Sprinkler for more than 29 years, and raised sheep.
Surviving are two daughters, Amy Jo (Scott) Ripley of Decatur and Tina Jean (John) Sloan of Tampa, Fla.; a step-son, Scott D. (Cyndee) Millington of Decatur; two sisters, Carolyn Kae (Marvin) Taylor and Marilyn Mae Schaadt, both of Monroe; three grandchildren, Micheal, Drew and Haley Ripley; and four step-grandchildren, Grant, Mahima, Edin and Maria Millington.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Church, 4960W 100N, Decatur, with Pastor Mike Wertenberger officiating.
Internment will follow in M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne.
Friends will be received from 12-6 p.m. Sunday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Preferred memorials are to St. Luke’s Church Building Fund.
