Robert D. Morrissey

    Robert Dale Morrissey, 91, Bluffton, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Markle Health and Rehab Center.
     He was born July 11, 1922, in Wells County, the son of the late Thomas Michael and Hattie Marie (Pruitt) Morrissey. He married Evelyn Haflich Feb.14, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton. They shared in 61 years of marriage.
    Dale was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton. He was a 1940 graduate of Rockcreek High School.
    He served his country in the United States Army from Oct. 1942-Jan. 1949, when he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in the 128th Infantry Regiment.
    Dale was an owner/partner of Haflich and Morrissey Shoe Store. He began working in the Bluffton store in 1939 and moved to Decatur in 1950, where he opened and operated a Haflich and Morrissey Shoe Store. After his retirement in 1984, his favorite activities were mowing and enjoying the outdoors. Dale and Evelyn returned to Bluffton in 2003. His favorite expression was “oh happy day”.
    He was a Fourth Degree-Knights of Columbus in Decatur and a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis. Dale was an active member of the Decatur Optimist Club for 43 years, where he was awarded for perfect attendance. He was also a member of the Bluffton Optimist Club for seven years.
    Dale is survived by his wife, Evelyn Morrissey; four children, Nancy (Larry) Leitz, Janet (Doug) Lehman and Michael (Jill) Morrissey, all of Bluffton, and Patrick Morrissey of Fort Wayne; he was a proud grandpa to four grandchildren, Nathaniel “Nate” (Erica) Lehman, Gregory Lehman of Bluffton, Nicole (Doug) Miller of Fort Wayne and Matthew (Jordan) Morrissey of Zionsville; and three great-grandchildren, Carter Allen and Cadence Danielle Lehman; and Cale David Morrissey.
     He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Morrissey.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton, with Father Pius N. Ilechukwu and Father Steve Colchin officiating.
    Visitation will be held 2-7 Friday at Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton, with a Prayer Service and Rosary following calling. Calling will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.
    Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery with military honors preformed by the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton and the United States Army Honor Guard.
     Preferred memorials may be made in Dale's memory to the Bluffton Optimist Club or Mass Intention at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
