Robert D. Marquardt

    Robert D. Marquardt, 85, of rural Monroeville, died at 6:25 p.m. Monday in Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne.
    He was born on April 25, 1925, in Monroeville to Edward and Bertha Salway Marquardt.
    He married Opal P. Feasby on July 28, 1945, in Monroeville; she passed away on November 9, 1999.
    Robert was the owner of Robert Marquardt Construction for more than 50 years, the owner of Allen Sewer and Septic Service, a farmer, the developer of the Willow Run housing addition in Monroeville, a homebuilder, and a digger of ditches for Allen County and elsewhere in Indiana and Ohio.
    He was a member of the Monroeville Fire Department from 1947-69 and a former assistant fire chief.
    Robert attended Monroeville Church of the Nazarene for more than 50 years, graduated from Hoagland High School in the Class of 1943, and raised and bred horses.
    He was an avid Indiana University fan and a great sideline referee.
    He was also the biggest fan of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Surviving are three daughters, Sandra S. Marquardt (and husband John Webster) of Convoy, Ohio; Kathy M. Enterline (and husband Robert Enterline Jr.) of Monroeville; and Connie Joe Reinhart (and husband Rex Reinhart) of Monroeville; his companion, Cleotha "Toey" Hart of Monroeville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal P. Marquardt; five brothers, Albert, John, Raymond, Otto, and Arthur Marquardt; three sisters, Opal Saam, Edith Bowers, and Maebelle Hart; one grandson, Danny L. Doctor; and two great-grandsons, Jonah and Joseph Hoffman.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Monroeville Church of the Nazarene, with Revs. Brent Hickman, David Taylor, and Dale Worcester officiating.
    Burial will be in Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
    Visiting hours are 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 11, and noon-8 p.m. Saturday, March 12, in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home's Jacobs Chapel at Monroeville and 1-2 p.m. Sunday in the church.
    Preferred memorials are to Monroeville Church of the Nazarene, the Monroeville Fire Department, or the Monroeville Emergency Medical Service unit.
