Robert A. Bombka, 71, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2011, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
He was born on July 29, 1939, in Fort Wayne to Boyce and Barbara (Sewart) Bombka.
He married Judith A. Mahlan on August 8, 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Bombka of Decatur; two sons, Tim (Sharon) Bombka and Nick Bombka of Decatur; two daughters, Renee Bombka and Shelly Beer of Decatur; one sister, JoAnne Rodman of Wabash; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dianna Bean.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 864 in Decatur and was a scoutmaster at St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Diving Club and founded the Teays River Snowmobile Club.
He was the owner and operator of TND Fireworks and a licensed pyrotechnician and shooter by Pyrotechnics Guild International.
He worked for International Harvester for 30 years and for the Adams County Sheriff’s Dept. for 22 years.
He served his country in the National Guard.
Bob loved fireworks. He was an avid photographer and fisherman and a huge fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Notre Dame football.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:30 p.m.
A 10:20 p.m. prayer service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
