Rick A. Steiner

    Rick Alan Steiner, 58, of Berne went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2013, at 5:45 a.m. at home in his wife's arms, surrounded by family following an extended illness.
    Rick was born February 10, 1955, in Decatur to the late Merlin Steiner and Carolyn (Bixler) Steiner; his mother survives.
    He married Nancy Hurst on Mary 1, 1977, and she survives in Berne.
    Rick was a lifelong farmer; graduate of South Adams High School Class of 1973, and a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne. He served on the Soil & Water Conservation Board; 4-H Swine Committee and French Township Insurance Advisory Board.
    Among survivors are two sons, Andrew "Andy" (Deby) Steiner and Scott (Amber) Steiner, both of Berne; two sisters, Sondra (Phil) Litwiller and Kathy (Ted) Liechty, both of Berne; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl "Gene" and Shirley Hurst of Decatur; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Hayley, Gabriel, and Grady Steiner, all of Berne.
    Rick was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Ryan Steiner, and a sister, Deb Becknell.
    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 22, at First Mennonite Church in Berne, with Pastor Jerry Flueckiger and Pastor Jeff Linthicum officiating.
    Burial will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery in rural Berne.
    Family and friends will be received from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, at Family Life Center at First Mennonite Church in Berne, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
    Preferred memorials are to Rick's grandchildrens' education fund or the donor's choice.
