Richard H. "Dick" Allspaw, 78, of Monroe, passed away on Saturday morning, October 22, 2011, at home.
He was born on June 28, 1933, to Robert and Harriet (Humphries) Allspaw in Berne.
He married Sharon Walker on June 8, 1969.
He graduated from Berne-French High School and Taylor University at Upland, Indiana. and earned a masters degree from Ball State University at Muncie.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 -57.
His teaching career began at Geneva High School in 1957-58 and continued at Adams Central High School from 1958-95, where he taught physics and chemistry.
He also worked as a timekeeper at Adams Central for various sports for over 40 years.
As a lifelong active member of Trinity United Methodist Church at Berne, he served on many boards and committees and was church treasurer for the past 28 years.
Dick was a charter member of the Edelweiss Men’s Chorus and loved every minute of his 17 years with them. He was also on the board of the South Adams Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Leanna (John) Ginocchio of Marshall, Minnesota; a son, Gregory (Elizabeth) Allspaw of Brownsburg, Indiana; a sister, Ruth Ann (Ted) Hopkins of Corydon, Iowa; a brother, David (Fran) Allspaw of Sidney, Ohio; and three grandchildren: Kayli and Jacob Ginocchio and Ethan Allspaw.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, at 10:30 a.m. in Trinity United Methodist Church, 1217 W. Clark St., Berne, with visitation an hour before the service. Rev. Barry Humble and Rev. Anita Rediger will officiate.
Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, October 25, from 2-8 p.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, 365 W. Main Street, Berne.
Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, rural Berne.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, to Family LifeCare Hospice in Berne, to the Edelweiss Men’s Chorus, or to the South Adams Senior Center.
