Republicans sweep Adams County elections

November 6, 2012

It was another Republican sweep in Adams County Tuesday, with the biggest surprise an upset pulled off by Chad Kukelhan, who defeated longtime circuit court judge Frederick Schurger, garnering over 52 percent of the vote.
Other winners in contested races were: Deb Stimpson, Recorder; Leslie Cook, Coroner; Tony Mellencamp, Dennis Bluhm and Randy Colclasure, three county council seats.
Tim Ehlerding and Al Converset won North Adams School Board seats in District 1, while Mark Bulmahn and Jim Voglewede won the District 2 seats. Incumbent Deb Bergman finished third and out of the money in the District 2 race, which had six candidates.
At South Adams, incumbent Arlene Amstutz keep her District 2 school board seat, taking 51.2 percent of the vote. In the at-large race, Amy Orr was the top vote-getter, but by only three votes over Gresham (Bud) Bearss. That race will not be final until al; provisional ballots are counted later.
