The Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) announced that Adams Central senior Shawn Reinhard has been named the recipient of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship as ACCF 2012 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
Reinhard will receive full tuition to the Indiana college of his choice, as well as a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.
Reinhard, son of Kim and Marvin Reinhard of rural Monroe, will attend Bethel College this fall and plans to major in pre-med.
“I am overwhelmingly thankful for this scholarship. I feel so honored,” said Reinhard.
The ACCF scholarship process began in September 2012 when students were invited to attend a presentation at their school by ACCF Executive Director Coni Mayer. The three Adams County guidance departments offered workshops and assistance to over 145 students who applied, according to Mayer.
After the ACCF scholarship subcommittee narrowed the field to the top 25 percent, the full committee narrowed this group to the top five students. They were invited into participate in the interview process.
The other 2012 finalists were Bellmont seniors Connor Hakes and Amanda Noonan, and South Adams seniors Kristal All and Dustin Wanner.
Mayer said theses scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education, awarding 142 scholarships statewide
All other scholarships awarded by the ACCF will be presented at the students’ high school awards events. The ACCF will again offer scholarships for graduating high school seniors in 2013. The due date will be the first Thursday in February.
Scholarships are also available for Adams County residents who are already in college, Mayer noted.
