Government documents in the basement of the Adams County Jail.

If you want old government documents of many types, they're being saved in the basement of the Adams County Jail, including those shown here. The county has records spanning 104 years, 1836-1940, which will eventually be made into computerized digital images so they can be stored in a much smaller space. State law requires a 70-year wait before a number of documents can be converted from the printed or written-on page to a computerized digital image; thus, the current cutoff year is 1940. It might cost more than $100,000 to make digital images of those records, the county commissioners were informed at their Jan. 21 meeting.
