Raymond A. Saalfrank, 86, Hoagland, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, at Lutheran Life Villages at Pine Valley. â€¨ He was born Thursday, March 22, 1928, in Allen County, son of the late Carl and Carla M. (Judt) Saalfrank.
He married Marilyn Saalfrank June 29, 1947, in Antioch Lutheran Church; she passed away Sept. 21, 2005. â€¨ Raymond was a1946 graduate of Hoagland High School and a member of the Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland, where he had served on the church board. He was a member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association. â€¨ Raymond retired in 1988 as supervisor from Container Corporation, with 42 years of service. â€¨ Surviving are a son, Michael (Beverly) Saalfrank of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Sheryl Grabner and Amy (Dave) Chappell, both of Fort Wayne and Cathy (Kyle Gardner) Saalfrank of Milliken, Colo.; two brothers, Richard Saalfrank of Ossian and Robert (Celeste) Saalfrank of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Alberta Whittern of Monroeville and Shirley Clover of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, Meggin (Brad) Gates, Abbie (Jason) Howard, Erin (Joe) Payton, Joshua (Jenifer) Grabner, Caitlyn (Joe Best) Evans, Kyle Evans, Nicole Chappell and Sydney Chappell; and 11 great-grandchildren. â€¨ Preceding Raymond in death were two brothers, Melvin and George Saalfrank. â€¨ Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Antioch Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Taylor officiating.
Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. â€¨ Friends will be received from 12-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m., Sunday at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church Monday. â€¨ Preferred memorials are to Antioch Lutheran Church.
