Raymond L. Gibson

    Raymond L. Gibson, 75, Monroeville, passed away at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at his residence following an extended illness, however his death was unexpected.
    Ray was born Monday, Aug. 22, 1938, in Monroeville, the son of the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Baker) Gibson. He married Mary Jo Weaver Oct. 19, 1957, in Auburn; she survives.
    He was a member of the Standardbred Horse Association. Among Ray's many loves in life, he greatly enjoyed working in his garden. He was also a wealth of knowledge that was lovingly and freely passed down to his family-whether they wanted it or not.
    Ray retired in November 1997 from B.F. Goodrich in Woodburn. In addition to his employment at Goodrich, he was a lifelong farmer and raised Standardbred race horses on his homestead.
    Surviving are two sons, Rodney (Terri) Gibson and Randy (Therese) Gibson both of Monroeville; two daughters, Rhonda (Mark) Scheumann of Hoagland and Rae (Randy) Fluttrow of Monroeville; a sister, Sharon (Maury) Springer of Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren, Craig, Sarah, Dianna, Marissa, Derek, Jared, Melinda, Edward, Kenton, Ashley, Daniel, Matthew, Zachary, Joshua and Austin; and 10 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, 111 S. Water St., Monroeville, with Rev. Harold Klinker officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
    Friends will be received from 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to services Wednesday, both in the funeral home.
    Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Monroeville Fire Department and/or Monroeville EMS.
