Raymond C. Johnson

    Raymond C. "Bing" Johnson, 88, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011, in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
    He was born on September 30, 1923, in Decatur to Edward and Maude Kurtz Johnson.
    He married Helen M. Ward on December 1, 1956; she died in September of 2000.
    "Bing" was a member of Decatur Church of Christ and American Legion Post 43 in Decatur. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
    He retired in 1986 as a custodian for the North Adams Community Schools.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Linda) Springer and Mrs. Rod (Teresa) Simon of Decatur; three sisters, Mildred Elliott, Wilma Liby, and Mrs. James (Louise) Hart, all of Decatur; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Charles C. Johnson; two brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild.
    Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011, in Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
    The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011, in the funeral home, with Pastor Dave Rea officiating.
    Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the color guard from American Legion Post 43.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family.
