Ralph R. Grote

    Ralph R. Grote, 89, of Decatur, died at 5 a.m. Monday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
    He married Irene C. Conrad on March 28, 1943, in Immanuel Lutheran Church; she survives.
    He was an auto mechanic for 49 years, a charter member of the Union Township Lions Club, and a member of American Legion Post 43 in Decatur, of which he had served as commander.
    During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
    Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Don (Sandra K.) Bennett of Waynedale and Mrs. Barry (Cynthia J.) Bradtmueller of Hoagland; three sons, Derryl G. Grote (and wife Linda) of Decatur, Leon D. "Hap" Grote (and wife Helen) of Hoagland, and Timothy R. Grote (and wife Bert) of Decatur; one brother, Jerry Grote (and wife Jean) of Decatur; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
    One brother, Don Grote, is deceased.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Decatur, with military graveside honors by the color guard at American Legion Post 43 of Decatur.
    Visiting hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and 9:30-10 a.m. Thursday in the church.
    Preferred memorials are to the building fund at Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the "Worship for Shut-Ins" program.
