Ralph E. Smith Jr.

    Ralph E. Smith Jr., 81, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at a hospital in Texas.
    He was born in Paoli, Ind., on April 21, 1931, to the late Ralph E. Smith Sr. and Charlotte F. Smith.
    Ralph married Nella R. (Potter) Smith on June 13, 1953; she died on October 28, 2007.
    He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of the Adams County Board of Elections. Ralph retired from E & L Transport.
    Among survivors are his three sons, Allen R. Smith of Wenatchee, Wash.; James B. (Judy) Smith of Fort Wayne; and Scott E. (Elva) Smith of San Isidro, Texas; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Evan, Tyler, Jonathan, Christopher, and Delia; and three great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Maykayla, and Aaliyah.
    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky F. Smith.
    Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, October 22, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, at First United Methodist Church, with calling one hour prior to service. Rev. Martha Lyon will be officiating.
    Burial will take place in the Decatur Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
