Founded in 1893, the Purdue University Varsity Glee Club is a select ensemble that has entertained on behalf of Purdue for campus, community, state, national and international events, averaging between 50-60 appearances each year.
Embodying the spirit of service above self, the men of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club represent different backgrounds and hometowns across the country, consistently maintaining a high level of academic excellence with majors ranging from engineering to education to management to biological sciences, according to the university.
The musical troupe employs a versatile repertoire including gospel, vocal jazz, swing, contemporary hits, romantic ballads, classical choral selections, barbershop, folk melodies, patriotic standards, familiar opera choruses, country and novelty tunes.
The glee club, along with the Purduettes, have scheduled a performance in Decatur on Sunday, March 4. The show will start at 3 p.m. in Bellmont High School's Erekson Theatre.
Also in the show will be the Purdue Flappers, Cowgirls and Ba-Na-Na. In addition, the Bellmont show choir will perform in a joint musical number with both of the Purdue ensembles.
Tickets are $15 for reserved seats and order forms are available at Bellmont and the North Adams Administration Building.
The forms also are available at the Decatur and Berne Chambers of Commerce, Fifth Third Bank's main branch in downtown Decatur, Monroe Grain & Supply on SR 124 in Monroe, Richard's restaurant in Decatur, the German Mutual Insurance office on Morningstar Drive in Decatur, all branches of the First Bank of Berne, the Decatur Veterinary Hospital, Heyerly's Baker in Ossian and several area churches.
