Pool, park upgrades unveiled

April 4, 2014

A climbing structure similar to the one pictured above will be added at Hanna Nuttman Park.

Northward, Hanna Nuttman and Waterworks parks, along with the Decatur municipal swimming pool, are targeted for improvements this spring, according to Chris Krull,  director of leisure services at the Adams County Parks and Recreation Department. The estimated cost of the improvements was set at $55,000.
Krull said the most major repairs will be to the city pool and Waterworks Park. The federal Americans with Disabilities Act requires a chair lift for handicapped pool visitors be installed that will lower them into and lift them out of the pool. The installation must take place before the pool opens June 7. The lift was purchased late last year at a cost of $7,000. Krull said department employees attempted to install the lift in 2013 but, because of unstable concrete, were unable to mount the equipment. The parks and rec department will replace about 75 percent of the concrete, he said, at a cost of approximately $5,000.
