Police surround city home
The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) was summoned to Decatur Sunday evening to assist the Adams County Sheriff's Department with the execution of a search warrant after county officers received information that a man they believed to be heavily armed was in a local residence.
Sheriff Shane Rekeweg said police are actively looking for Wade Richard Crone, 26, who is wanted on a charge of criminal confinement, a class D felony.
Rekeweg said information was received by his department that Crone was in a residence in the 1200 block of Master Drive in Decatur and was believed to be carrying multiple handguns so a search warrant for that residence was sought and obtained.
Rekeweg said Crone "poses a threat to both the public and to law enforcement" and that is why he sought assistance from the state police in serving the search warrant on the residence.
Members of the ERT made entry into the house between 8-9 p.m. but did not locate anyone inside the residence.
Neighbors in the area reported this morning that a shot was heard, but Adams County Chief Deputy Eric Beer said this morning that no shots were fired by authorities and the sound heard must have been "something else."
Other authorities speculated that it may have been an explosive device which an ERT team will use upon entering a building.
Rekeweg asked for the public's help in locating Crone. He is described as being 5-10, 170 pounds with blond hair, blue eyes and a tattoo on the left side of his neck. Anyone with information should contact the Adams County Sheriff's Department,724-5345, or Adams County Crimestoppers, 692-2882. All information will remain anonymous, police said.
