Police station added to city hall proposal

December 18, 2013

Decatur City Council’s final meeting of 2013 provided a major slingshot into 2014: a project that will provide a new city hall building as well as a new police station. And barring any major catastrophes, it will be done without any tax increases.

Jeffrey Lowe of H. J. Umbaugh & Associates, Mishawaka, laid out various options for financing the dual project before council on Tuesday night. While nothing is final at this point, council agreed on several fronts to move forward with the project. When the issue was wrapped up for the evening, Mayor John Schultz said, “We’re moving forward, we’re getting something done.”
