Pedestrian hit on 13th St. dies of injuries

January 2, 2012

Services will be held Tuesday in Van Wert for a 21-year-old Decatur man who died Friday from injuries suffered December 24 when struck by a vehicle as he crossed 13th St.
Brandon A. Heath died early Friday afternoon in Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, six days after being hit while crossing across 13th St. at night.
Visiting hours are 2-8 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Tuesday in Cowan and Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery at Ohio City, Ohio. (An obituary notice is on page 3A of today's edition.)
A Decatur police report said the deceased man, wearing dark clothing, walked in front of a car at 6:33 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, in the area of Madison St. The driver of the vehicle, Virginia K. Hoffman, Decatur, said she was unable to avoid hitting the man.
Several witnesses concurred with Hoffman’s statement,  police said.
A police crash scene investigator and other authorities said Heath was improperly crossing 13th Street without due regard for traffic.
