Paperwork begins on old bridge re-erection

August 17, 2011

Bridge being removed in Decatur

The lengthy paperwork process has begun for re-erecting a large railroad bridge over the Wabash River between Berne and Geneva as part of the South Adams Trails hiking and biking project.
Adams County Engineer Tim Barkey told the county commssioners last week that the bridge, which was dismantled by the Bunge North America plant in Decatur last summer and currently is in storage at Geneva, will probably be reinstalled at its new site in 2014 because it will take that long to complete the process.
However, he added, some preliminary environmental work has already been done.
Barkey said he met on Monday with personnel from the Indiana Department of Transportation concerning the trail bridge project.
